They’re a family! They have huge hits! They’re Irish! But what else
should we know about the Corrs?
Caroline, their drummer, fills us in…
How did you get discovered?
Well, we started the band about nine years ago, but the real break
was when we went to the States to pursue a record deal. We met our producer
by gatecrashing a session he was doing with Michael Jackson! He loved us;
we played around the piano and the next day we were signed. That was in
1994.
And now you’re glamorous pop stars – does it feel like a world away
from your home in Dundalk?
It certainly does. Dundalk’s only a small town of 35,000 people, halfway
between Dublin and Belfast. It’s no big shakes, but it’s nice. You know
your roots are at home, but you’re catapulted into the ridiculous stuff.
How did (lead singer) Andrea enjoy being dragged out of bed by Madonna
in Evita?
Oh, it was a great experience for her. She got the part as the mistress
in Evita after working on The Commitments. It was only for a few days and
she had a great time. There wasn’t really much chit-chat between herself
and Madonna – they just did their jobs basically.
Who has the most blokes after them – you girls or Natalie Umbrellastand?
(Giggling) I’d say it’s Natalie. Does our brother get all protective?
No, he’s learned that we can look after ourselves. There’s this perception
that we’ve got male admirers coming our of the woodwork, but in fact we’re
going from place to place and the situation breeds no boyfriends more often!
What’s the most pop starry thing you do?
Oh, I don’t know whether I should say that, because it sounds too obnoxious.
It’s drinking champagne. I don’t drink it all the time because it’s quite
expensive, but it is my favourite taste.
