Never mind fame, Sharon and Andrea Corr are natural beauties
The phrase “don’t hate me because I’m beautiful” sprang to mind upon coming face-to-face with Sharon and Andrea of Irish supergroup The Corrs. Even jet lag and hangovers did nothing to tarnish their creamy, alabaster skin and sparkly, dark eyes. Sitting cross-legged on the floor, eating cream bikkies and drinking cups of tea, they revealed lovely, down-to-earth personalities.
I was surfing the Net today…
Andrea: Oh God, what did you find? Who am I with today?
I found some, uh, interesting Corrs sites; what do you think about
them?
Andrea: It’s a bit freaky, actually, especially if it’s getting
down to whether we do our own laundry. I mean, that’s completely unnecessary.
I don’t know why anyone would be interested.
Sharon: It can be flattering. Sometimes I’ve logged on to chats
about us. It’s pretty amazing. Jim gets online and has a chat to fans sometimes
under a fake name. There’s only one who knows it’s him. He’s promised never
to give it away.
How do you cope with all the attention?
Sharon: If you’ve just gone out to the supermarket, and people
are looking in your basket to see what you’ve bought, it can be a hassle.
Often you’re in a situation and you don’t want attention drawn to you.
If you’ve got jet lag or whatever, you’re more depressed than you’d normally
be. You don’t feel good about yourself, and it can be difficult sometimes.
I understand why people wear shades – best invention ever.
Andrea: Sometimes you don’t feel worthy of being looked at and
having fame. But I think we’d miss the attention if it wasn’t there.
Ever feel like doing a radically different dance track or something?
Andrea: No, it wouldn’t be natural to us. We couldn’t, unless
we got someone else to write it.
Okay – ever want to radically change your look?
Andrea: Yeah, sometimes I’m so sick of the way I look. But it’s
difficult. I’d love to have fairer hair and a fairer complexion, so I could
go blonde. But I just can’t; I’d just look ridiculous.
Sharon: Some people just love changing their image all the time
– they change their hair and their fashion sense very week. But I just
like to feel comfortable, and I’m happy with what I wear. If we were being
styled by people, I think we’d be completely freaked out.
You don’t have a stylist?
Sharon: No, but we do get someone to go out and buy what we
want, because we don’t have time to.
The way you look has been such a focus for the media; how do you
feel about that?
Sharon: It’s flattering that we’re perceived in that way, but
we’re doing this because of the music. I think the world knows that now.
I don’t really have a problem with it anymore. It’s nice if people think
we look good.
Any weird job offers lately?
Sharon: Apparently it was on the Net that we were offered Playboy.
They never approached us, and it’s not something that we ever considered.
Can you imagine three sisters doing Playboy? It would be incestuous… We’ve
had people with their ears painted on basically suggesting that because
we’re family we should cover an Osmond track. We’re like, “Hmm…great idea,
but we write our own music.”
What about movies – anything in the pipeline?
Andrea: I’ve been approached on a number of things, but I think,
when it’s right, I’ll do it. It has to fit in time-wise. If it’s meant
to be, it’s meant to be.
