In Answer to the phrase: “The Corrs Have Come
And Gone”
I've been thinking about this for a few days, wondering about my response
to it.
And the answer is, I'm a Corrs fan. I'm always going to be a Corrs
fan. I can even see myself when I'm old and gray putting FNF or In Blue
into the CD player, or still getting a huge smile from watching Caro sing
No Frontiers.
I'll always remember the first Corrs concert I went to, and remember
how I felt when that curtain fell to Caroline's drums.
I'll always love the opening to Heaven Knows, always be crusading for
Caroline to sing more, always getting into arguments with people over the
fact that The Corrs are REALLY the best band in the world.
See, I don't care about chart places, or how many awards they have
won, or which country they're number one in.
I care about the music. And even more so, I love the people behind
that music. And to me, that music wouldn't be the same, and the people
certainly wouldn't be the same that I love if they hadn't had those breaks,
if they hadn't brought out In Blue and if they hadn't had all the changes
in their lives that they've had.
To me, The Corrs are what the people are. Andrea wouldn't be the same
to me if she didn't suck her thumb despite everyone telling her not to,
if she didn't find her situation with her being connected to heaps of men
entertaining, or if she didn't have that song writing capability.
Caroline wouldn't be the same to me if she didn't have someone who
obviously loves her as much as Frank does, if she didn't play the drums
with the amazing feel that she does, if her voice wasn't as beautiful,
if that sense of humour wasn't there.
Sharon wouldn't be the same to me if she didn't come out with things
like "I like sex, expecially with my sister", if she didn't keep an eye
on her sisters like she does, if she didn't play her violin with the feeling
she does.
And Jim wouldn't be the same without his humour, his guitar playing,
putting up with three girls, and answering those same questions over and
over, without being rude.
See, the Corrs aren't just a band that has hit after hit, or who tour
the entire world in a year, or who headline papers with their raucous activities.
They're real people. They have real emotions. And those emotions are what
drives into their songs.
Have the Corrs come and gone? To me, I don't think they'll ever be
past their prime. Even if they have flop after flop or their albums are
never in the Top 100. Sure, I get cranky when The Corrs aren't nominated
for awards, or aren't covered as much. But they're not gone.
The music is always there. And more important, the people that make
that music, and that write those songs, and that live those lives.
People can think what they want. Who cares if the people at Dotmusic
don't care, or some Iggy Pop fans think the Corrs are crap?
What matters is that we care! That we're true fans. That we're people
who love The Corrs not just for their music, but for the people they are.
Even if the Corrs never wrote another song, never released another
album and never performed again, they still wouldn't be gone. Because we
will always remember having our lives touched one way or another by these
four talented people, who love what they do and who obviously love life.
And I think that is all that matters.
