Nine Months - Month Nine
Hannah and Elle looked curiously at the suitcase next to their mother’s bedroom door.
“Going somewhere Mammy?” Hannah asked.
Caroline looked at her stomach and frowned. “Not yet anyway.”
“When is the baby coming, Mammy?” Elle asked. “I don’t know that you can fit anymore baby in there.”
“Thanks,” Caroline grumbled. “According to the doctor, it will be here in a week.”
“Well, call me where it gets here,” Elle replied, heading off down the hallway with her twin.

“I….hate…being…pregnant,” Nea said, slumping next to the toilet in the bathroom.
“What can I do?” asked Jim hovering in the doorway.
“We are never, ever, doing it again,” Nea told him. “But water would be good.”
Wide-eyed, Jim wandered aimlessly down the hallway.
************************************************************************
“Gavin, honey, whatcha doing?” Sharon said, peeking her head into the bathroom.
Gavin sat in the bath, reading the paper. “Reading the paper. Escaping our Barbie obsessed angel. Escaping my…” He turned to her. “What can I do for you?”
“We have to do something. Now.”
“Can’t it be done after my bath?”
“No. I’ll be waiting for you in the bedroom.”
A few minutes later, Gavin was in the bedroom. “Alright, I’m here. What’s the problem?”
“We need to have sex.”
Gavin blinked. “Is this another weird hormonal thing?”
“No!!!” Sharon folded her arms. “I don’t have hormonal things. But I did read that doing it makes the baby come quicker.”
“You did, huh?”
Sharon frowned. “Fine, I watched it on reruns of Chicago Hope. The point is, I’m willing to try anything.”
“Sharon…you’re not overdue.”
“But Caroline is due before me.”
Gavin blinked again. He was starting to get confused. “So?”
“So? She gets everything first! She announced she was pregnant first. She got kicked by the baby first. It’s my turn!”
“You were born first.”
Sharon gestured to the spot on the bed next to her.
"Now," she said.
Gavin got into the bed and smiled slyly at her. “You know, this whole dominant thing you’ve got going on is very sexy.”
********************************************************************************************
"Noooooo! Damn you!" wailed Andrea.
Shaun grinned evilly at her over the screen of the laptop. "I really like the neopets battledome. How did I live before this?"
"With pokemon stadium. You are so sad."
"Hey! This comes from the woman who bought her neopet a complete set of Kau plushies."
Andrea glanced at him from the PC she was using. "Didn't hear you complaining when I ordered you one from the shop now, did I?"
Shaun chuckled. "You sound like you're still smarting from Hannah creaming you at Mario Kart."
Andrea frowned. "I don't think I like my computer/nintendo phase anymore."
********************************************************************
Caroline woke up to the sound of two small people scrambling up onto the couch.
A minute later, a little voice murmered, "Heeeeeeeeeeeere baby-baby-baby-baby-baby..."
Unable to contain her curiosity, Caroline sat up to discover Hannah and Elle sitting at the end of the couch, Hannah waving a leftover Christmas candy cane over Caroline's stomach.
"Girls... what are you doing?"
Elle looked seriously at her mother. "We're trying to lure the baby out."
Hannah nodded. "We're helping. We heard you telling Daddy you wish the baby would hurry up and come already, and we figured that it would really want the last candy cane..."
"Hannah! Keep waving the candy cane!" interrupted Elle.
"Oh, right!" Hannah crouched down over her mother's belly again. "Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere baby-baby-baby-baby-baby..."
***********************************************************************************************************
Nea anglily slammed cabinets in the kitchen muttering to herself, resulting in completely bewildering poor Jim.
"Nea, what's wrong?"
"We have no bananas!" snapped Nea.
"Yes, we have no bananas..." sang Jim
"Stop that! I need bananas! I NEED a banana and I need it now!"
"Why?" asked Jim. "We have plenty of other fruit... we even have toffee apples, have a toffee apple..."
"Nooooooooo, I don't feel like a toffe apple, I feel like a banana."
Sensing the aggresive approach wasn't working, Nea decided to undergo an intentional moodswing.
"Honey," she said sweetly, "You know how I love you more than anything in the whole world?"
"Jeez, okay, I'll get your banana..."
Nea squealed and threw her arms around her husband. "Thank you!"
*************************************************************************************************************
“Five…four…three…two…one,” Caroline said. “Three o’clock.”
Frank looked up. “Huh?”
“That was the date and time the doctor suggested the baby was due.”
“Honey, remember, the twins were three weeks early. Maybe this one is going to be late.”
Caroline frowned. “That’s not helping.” The phone rang. “Answering that would be helping.”
Frank answered the phone and nodded and said okay a few times. When he had finished, he hung up the phone, stared at his wife and burst out laughing.
Caroline folded her arms. “You better have a good explanation for why you’re laughing at me.”
“I’m not laughing at you, I’m laughing at the situation.”
Caroline narrowed her eyes. “What situation? Who was on the phone?”
“Andrea. She said we better get moving. Sharon’s gone into labour.”
Caroline’s eyes widened. “What? No! She’s not allowed to go into labour! It’s my turn! It’s my day and my time!” She got up. “She’ll just have to stop it.”
“Caroline, remember when Hannah turned around halfway during being born?”
Caroline winced. “Yeah.”
“Well, you wanted to stop then, and that didn’t happen. I don’t think Sharon can really stop this either.”
“That’s it! We have to go see her!”
**************************************************************************************************************
“Heee, hooo, heee heee hooo,” Lily breathed at her mother.
Sharon blinked. “Lily, hon, what are you doing?”
“Helping you breathe.”
“I’m quite okay to breathe,” she assured her.
Gavin came in. “Okay, everyone has been rung. Jim’s out buying bananas. And Andrea’s just arrived.”
“You’re having a baby!” Andrea squealed, coming into the room.
“No kidding,” Sharon answered.
“I’m helping Mammy breathe,” Lily said proudly.
Andrea raised an eyebrow. “Really?” She chuckled slightly and Sharon glared at her.
“That’s it, you’re in big trouble now!” Caroline cried, bursting in.
Sharon let out a groan of pain and Gavin took her hand.
“Contraction?”
“No kidding,” Sharon replied.
“Hello!” Caroline cried. “You stole my day AND my time!”
“I don’t see you going into labour!”
“Obviously! You stole my turn! You know, this is so typical! Just because I announced my pregnancy first AND my baby kicked first, you have to go and have the first contractions!”
Frank came in then, smiling meekly, with the twins. “I’m not looking, I’m not looking. I’m just taking my wonderful wife out for a walk with her children. Come on honey.”
"Don't you dare play with the bed controls like you did last time," Sharon warned Andrea.
Andrea grinned sheepishly. "If it makes you feel any better, I did it to Caroline too."
*****************************************************************************************************
“It isn't fair," muttered Caroline. "Well, okay, I guess it IS fair, but that doesn't mean that I have to like it."
"Can I do anything to make you feel better?"
"Maybe. You'll probably think of something to say."
"Hey, Mammy, look!," squealed Elle. "Wheelchairs! I want one!"
"Me too!" shrieked Hannah.
"Girls! This is a hospital, be quiet! And no wheelchairs, you just HAD your birthdays."
"But Mammy, how come that guy gets to ride in one?" asked Hannah, as a man with his leg in a cast was pushed past.
"Because he can't walk. Your legs walk perfectly fine."
Elle dramatically collapsed to the floor. "Oh no! Oh no! I think my leg is broken! Oh no! I won't be able to walk! Don't worry about me, I'll just live on the hospital floor for the rest of forever..."
"I'll save you, Elle!" cried Hannah, making a beeline for the wheelchairs. Thankfully, Frank scooped her up before she could do any damage.
"Elle seems happy to live on the floor," shrugged Caroline. "And since I'm physically incapable of carrying her, it's just as well."
Elle frowned as her family started to walk off without her.
"Wait for meeeeeeeeeeeeee!" she cried, scrambling to her feet.
"Hey, I just thought of something that might make you feel better," said Frank.
Caroline dubiously raised an eyebrow. "Yeah?"
"Right at this moment, your sister is in excruciating pain, and you aren't."
Caroline grinned. "I knew you'd make me feel better," she smiled, kissing him on the cheek.
***************************************************************************************************************
Lily looked at Andrea, as a particularly loud yell came from her mother’s room. “She sounds hurt. Should I help her?”
Andrea scooped her niece into her lap. “No, you can’t help her at the moment. We’re going to wait here for a little while and then maybe go back to my house if your mummy is still here.”
Lily’s eyes widened. “How long does it take to have a baby?”
“Well, you took nine hours,” Andrea said.
“Really?”
Andrea nodded. “Yeah. We were all waiting for you to come, just like you and me are waiting for your new baby brother or sister to come.”
“What about the twins?”
“They
took almost two
days.”
”Woah! I hope this baby doesn’t take two days.”
They heard another yell.
“Me too,” Andrea agreed.
**************************************************************
“You’re getting fixed when we’re finished here!” Sharon growled.
Gavin gulped and experience from Lily’s birth kicked in. “Whatever you say, honey.”
Another loud yell came from his wife and Gavin sighed. Here we go again, he thought.
******************************************************************
Andrea coaxed Lily through the door the next morning.
“What if the new baby doesn’t like me?” Lily asked.
“What if the new baby has alien tentacles and fish gills?” Andrea asked.
Lily raised an eyebrow. “You’re creepy, Auntie Andrea.”
Lily walked into the room and saw her mother sitting up in bed. “Mammy!” she cried, racing over and hugging her.
“Hey sweetie,” Sharon smiled. “Would you like to meet you new baby sister?”
“Does the baby have gills and alien tentacles?”
“No. And you shouldn’t listen to horrible stories that Auntie Andrea tells you.”
Gavin walked over with a little bundle and handed it to Sharon.
“Lily, this is your new baby sister, Rosie Charmaine Bonnar.”
“A girl!” Lily cried. She jumped down to her knees on the floor. “Thankyou, oh thankyou!” She sat back on the bed. “Can I hold her Mammy?”
Sharon glanced at Gavin who shrugged. Carefully, she showed her daughter how to hold the baby.
“Cool,” Lily said. “Hi Rosie. I’m Lily. I’m the bestest sister in the whole world!”
Rosie began to cry and Lily handed the baby back.
“You can have her back now.”
***************************************************************************
“How’re you feeling?” Sharon asked Caroline, who was sitting on the couch. Sharon was holding five-day-old Rosie in her arms, cooing to her softly. Nea had disappeared into the bathroom again and Andrea had yet to arrive.
Caroline frowned. “Jealous.” She looked at the baby. “How’s Lily coping with the new arrival?”
Sharon shrugged. “She’s okay. Doesn’t like the crying during the night though.”
Nea dragged herself back into the room. “Okay, I’m still alive.”
“You look it too,” Sharon nodded.
Caroline handed over a cracker. “Try that.”
“Thanks,” Nea said weakly.
Andrea burst into the room and raced over to her new niece. “Who’s a little ooggie boogggie beewdiful little angel then? Who’s Auntie Andrea’s bewdiful baby?”
Rosie widened her eyes at Andrea.
“Don’t be creepy, Andrea,” Caroline told her.
“Don’t be jealous,” Andrea said, skipping over to her sister. She bent down and poked Caroline’s tummy. “Who’s a bewdiful little baby then?”
“You want to keep that finger?” Caroline asked.
“Why are you so cranky, Caro?” Andrea asked. She giggled. “Cranky Caro. Cranky Caro, Cranky Caro!”
Sharon looked at her oddly. “Andrea, have you been drinking?”
“Well, Shaun and I played a little…” Andrea stopped as she saw the looks on her sisters faces. “No.”
Lily walked into the room, the twins following her. Lily was dressed in a dress-up nurses uniform and she had a doll bottle in her hands.
Caroline raised an eyebrow. “Have you explained the wonders that is breast-feeding yet?”
Sharon wrinkled her nose. “Lily, hon, whatcha up to?”
“Baby feeding time.”
“Be right back,” Nea said, racing for the bathroom.
“What’s with her?” Lily asked.
Caroline shifted on the couch and rubbed her back.
“Backache?” Andrea asked sympathetically.
“You have no idea,” Caroline replied. She gasped as a shooting pain ran through her. “Ah, actually, I think it could be more than a backache.”
Andrea and Sharon looked at each other. Andrea grabbed the twins before they could run over to their mother.
“Labour?” Sharon asked.
“Oh yeah,” Caroline replied, as another pain arose.
Lily rolled her eyes and disappeared from the room. She came back and handed the cordless phone to her mother. “Here we go again.”
********************************************************************************************
"Mammy?" Hannah whimpered.
Elle sniffled. "I want Mammy!"
Andrea let go of their hands. "Be gentle with her, guys." she warned.
"Like we were with Rosie?" asked Hannah.
Andrea nodded. "Just like that."
"Dibs on supporting her head!" cried Elle.
"Awwww, no fair."
*******************************************************************************************************
"DON'T TOUCH THE BED CONTROLS!!!!!!!"
Andrea jumped. "Aahh!!!!!!"
"What bed controls?" asked Elle inquisitively.
"Nothing," said Caroline forcefully. "Andrea?" she motioned towards the door. "Please?"
"Hey you two, do you want to go for a walk?"
Andrea asked the twins.
"No," said Hannah.
"Yeah, we wanna stay with mammy." agreed Elle.
"No, you don't," said Frank. "Owwww!!!!!"
"Serves you right," glared Caroline.
"There's a children's room around here somewhere, I swear," said Andrea. "It'll be tons more fun that sitting around here waiting for the baby to be born."
"No," said Hannah forcefully.
Andrea thought a moment. "There's also a candy machine."
Hannah and Elle looked at each other.
"Let's gooooooooooo!!!" they cried, almost knocking Andrea down in attempt to get out the door.
Caroline sighed. "Lovely. My daughters choose Kit Kats and M&M's over their own mother in her hour of need."
"Hour?" asked Frank.
"Okay, several hours. And don't question me while I'm in labour."
"Ow!"
************************************************************************************************
Frank wondered if he should swap hands. He was sure that Caroline had broken a couple of bones on her last contraction, but he might need at least one hand intact.
“Almost there, Caroline,” the doctor assured her.
“Are you in pain?” Caroline asked her husband.
He nodded. “A considerable amount.”
“Good,” Caroline groaned, squeezing down on his hand again.
***********************************************************************************
Frank came out to the waiting room, looking pale. The twins were chomping on chocolate and at Frank’s look, Sharon and Andrea went up to him.
“What’s
the matter?”
”Is the baby okay?” Sharon asked.
Frank nodded numbly. “It’s a boy. He’s perfect.”
“Then what’s the matter?” Andrea said. She paled. “What’s the matter with Caroline?”
“She’s bleeding. Quite heavily. Tried to stop it but…” Frank glanced at the twins. “Don’t tell them. I have to get back in there.”
***********************************************************************************
Andrea
paced up and
down the corridor. “Where is she?”
”Stop pacing, you’re making me dizzy and everyone nervous,” Sharon told
her.
An hour later, Frank arrived back in the waiting room and the family ran up to him.
“She’s okay,” he said, heaving a sigh of relief. “She’s tired, but she’s fine.”
“Can we go see Mammy?” Hannah asked.
“And our little brother?” Elle asked. She grinned. “Santa needs to get a clock.”
Frank blinked and shook his head. “Okay, but you have to be very quiet and very gentle with Mammy. She’s very tired and sore.”
He grasped their hands and the group trudged into the room. Andrea and Sharon raced over to their sister, who was a little pale and hugged her.
Hannah and Elle clambered onto the bed and hugged her too.
“Santa brought our baby brother Mammy!” Elle cried.
Caroline smiled weakly. “Yeah, sure.”
Frank carried over a little bundle and handed the baby to Caroline.
“Girls, this is your brother, Christian Luke Woods.”
Elle and Hannah widened their eyes as they gazed at the baby. All of a sudden, Christian sneezed and Elle drew back.
“EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW! He sneezed on me!”
“Daddy do you have a clean hankie?” Hannah asked, giggling at her sister’s disgusted face.
*******************************************************************************************
“Hey, Auntie Andrea,” Hannah grinned, as Frank opened the door a few days later.
“Auntie Andrea, what’s breastfeeding?” Elle asked. “Do we have breasts?”
Frank blushed slightly. “Uh…is Jim with you?”
Andrea nodded and gestured to the car. “He’s coming.”
Andrea and Jim trooped into the loungeroom and Caroline let out a yell.
“James Steven Ignatious Corr avert your eyes this second!” she cried, hastily thrusting Christian at Frank and trying to button up her shirt. “I don’t need my brother looking at my breasts!”
“It’s not like I haven’t seen a pair before,” Jim smirked, sitting in a chair.
“That is so not the point,” Caroline replied huffily, taking the baby back.
Christian waved his arms around and kicked his legs, causing Rosie to omit an "Ahhhhhhhh" sound.
"They like each other!" squealed Andrea.
Christian lay perfectly still, staring wide-eyed at Hannah's tiny plastic teddy bear, which she was soaring over his head. He made a baby sound and reached out his hands for the bear and kicked.
"Don't give him the bear, Hannah," said Caroline.
"But Mammy, he wants it."
"He's too little, he might choke on it."
Hannah paused thoughtfully before tearing upstairs.
she came down a few minutes later dragging a massive white stuffed bear with Elle in tow.
"Wanna play with our beary-bear, Chris?" asked Elle. "Don't worry Mammy, noone could choke on Snowy. We've already tried eating him. It's impossible."
"Hi," said Sharon brightly, suddenly popping up behind Caroline.
Caroline nearly fell of her chair. "How did YOU get in?"
"You have the most unoriginal hiding place for a spare key I've ever come across."
"Do you usually go hunting for people's spare keys?"
"I gave it up when I got pregnant. You know, all the bending down and all..."
Andrea came around the corner, carefully carrying Rosie. "Under the mat? What's wrong with you guys? Why haven't you been robbed yet?"
"Can I have my baby back?"
Andrea tickled Rosie's foot. "If you'd let me look for the spare key you wouldn't be in this dilemma now, would you?"
"Rosie Posie Mosie!" shrieked Elle.
Rosie whimpered.
Andrea sighed. "Okaaaay, I guess you can have her back."
Andrea eyed the mothers with their newborns, and shifted her gaze to Hannah, who had scuttled over to her with a picture. "Look, Auntie Andrea!" grinned Hannah. "I drawed it! It's you in an elephant suit!"
"Awwwwwwww, thanks sweetie!" Andrea scooped up Hannah in her arms and headed for the door. "Caroline? I'm keeping this one. You've already got three."
"Okay," said
Caroline absently, who was keeping both eyes on Elle's peek-a-boo game
with
Christian.
************************************************************************
Lily clunked around her bedroom in her mothers high heels, pretending to feed a baby doll.
"Now, Lily Junior,
it's time for daddy to hold you. Daddy?" she paused. "DADDY!!!!"
Fred didn't reply. Gavin,
however, appeared at her door, looking harried. "What is it, honey?"
Lily looked surprised.
"Oh, nothing Daddy. I was talking to Fred."
"Right. Of
course."
Hannah and Elle came in. They were dressed in jeans with Corr t-shirts on. They were both waving drum sticks in the air.
“What are you doing?” Lily screeched, as they stomped around the fake house.
“We’re playing too!” Elle cried.
“Yeah! We’re Caroline Corr groupies!” Hannah said.
Caroline’s head popped round the corner. “What?”
“We’re your groupies!” Elle grinned.
Caroline rasied an
eyebrow. "Guys? Can you do me a favour?"
Hannah nodded.
"Anything,
Mammy," replied Elle.
"Can you tell people
that you're my biggest fans instead of groupies?"
Hannah wrinked her nose.
"It doesn't have the same ring to it."
"Well... how about my
biggest chocolate pudding fans?"
The twins eyes widened.
"Cool!!!"
As they ran excitedly down
the coridoor, Sharon put her head around the door and gave Caroline a
look.
"What? That didn't even make sense."
Caroline grinned. "It didn't have to."
***************************************************************************************************************
Christian stared wide-eyed as Elle and Hannah, both in their pajamas, crept into his room.
“I don’t know, Elle. That might have looked cool in Addams Family Values, but Mammy and Daddy are next door, not downstairs.”
“Hiya baby,” Elle waved at him.
Christian looked at her and started crying.
“Shh, shh,” Hannah said, putting a finger to her lips. “Now look what you did, Elle!”
“Me! Wasn’t my fault!”
“Was too!”
“Was not!”
An exhausted looking Caroline appeared at the doorway, Frank behind her.
“Girls, what’s going on?”
“Nothing,” they said innocently.
“I’ll put them back to bed,” Frank told his wife.
Caroline nodded and headed back to their bedroom. Frank took each girl by the hand and walked them back to their room.
“Okay, girls, here is why you have to be extra specially good.”
The two girls got into their beds and looked at him expectantly.
“Well, when babies are born, Mammy’s get very tired because they have to look after them all day long and at night, some babies don’t want to sleep, so Mammy’s have to get up at night too.”
Hannah and Elle scampered into the kitchen, making a beeline for the refridgerator.
"Found it!" cried
Hannah, lugging a large carton of orange juice out of the fridge.
"Oooh,
it's heavy."
Elle nodded. "That
means more Gummi Berry Juice for us!"
"Yeah!" agreed Hannah.
The girls heaved the
carton up onto the counter.
"Elle?" asked
Hannah. "How're we gonna drink it? We aren't allowed to pour drinks."
Elle frowned, then her
eyes lit up as she had a brainwave. She flung open several of the
kitchen draws
before she found what she wanted.
"Our loopy straws!" grinned Hannah.
"Uh huh! Mine's
Beaker, yours is Animal."
"I know, I know."
"Magic and mystery
are part of their history..."
"...Along with the secret of Gummiberry juice," continued Hannah, sticking her Animal loopy straw into the carton of orange juice. After she'd had a lengthy sip, she immediately began bounding around the kitchen. "Look at me!" she cried.
Half an hour later, both
girls were lying on the kitchen floor, clutching their stomachs, as the
nearly
empty carton of orange juice sat sedately on the counter.
"My tummy hurts," whimpered Elle.
*************************************************************************************************************
A baby’s cry echoed throughout the Bonnar house. Lily frowned and clamped her pillow over her head, but wasn’t having much success. She grabbed some cotton wool from the side of the bed and stuffed it in her ears, but that didn’t help either. Finally, she tried with the cotton wool and the pillow…and still the baby’s cry made it through.
In defeat she grumbled and threw her covers back. She slipped on her Barbie slippers and shrugged into her Barbie dressing gown, and made her way down to her sister’s room.
Sharon sat in the rocking chair, rocking the baby while Gavin look for toys to amuse Rosie. Lily shook her head in disgust.
She wandered up to the baby and put her finger to her lips. “SHHHH!!!” she hissed. “Some people are trying to get their beauty sleep around here!”
“I’m sorry she woke you up again darling,” Sharon told her. “Try to get back to sleep.”
“I wanna go stay with Auntie Andrea!” Lily said, folding her arms.
**************************************************************************************************************
Caroline had to admit that taking care of one baby was a breeze compared to two, but it still wasn’t easy when they woke you up in the middle of the night. She sat in the rocking chair that Frank had made her when the twins were born, trying to soothe the sobs away.
Frank came back in, carrying two mugs of hot chocolate. “One for you, one for me.”
“Thanks,” she smiled gratefully.
Hannah and Elle came into the room, dressed in their pajamas. Hannah had her Animal stuffed toy and Elle had her Beaker stuffed toy.
“Mammy, why can’t you switch the ‘off’ button?” Elle asked sleepily.
“Babies don’t have ‘off’ buttons,” Frank explained.
“Well who came up with that stupid idea?” Hannah protested.
Caroline looked pleadingly at her husband who took the girls hands.
“How about we go back to bed now?” he suggested.
“We wanna stay at Auntie Andrea’s,” Elle grumbled.
************************************************************************
“No,” Andrea said firmly.
“Come on Andy, it’d be a good trial for motherhood,” Caroline suggested.
“We need help here!” Sharon pleaded.
“Hey, I wasn’t the one who decided to keep breeding here.” Andrea smirked at them. “Although….”
“Children in the room!” Caroline said, pointing to Christian who was sleeping soundly.
“One night is all we’re asking,” Sharon begged.
“Look, having each kid one night is one thing…but having them ALL on one night? Are you trying to kill me?”
“Hey! We just went through labour!” Caroline frowned. “Don’t you start talking about pain and death until you experience labour. And let’s remember who’s had twins before. With one turning around HALF WAY through!!!”
Andrea started muttering. “That’s not fair! That’s emotional blackmail that is!”
“We’re mothers. We resort to any means necessary,” Sharon said, eyes narrowing.
“Okay, okay. One night. But make sure they have consumed no sugar at least 24 hours before hand.”
***********************************************************************
"Not chocolatey
enough." Nea handed back the quadriple chocolate fudge deluxe with
extra
extra extra chocolate that Jim had made for her.
Jim raised an eyebrow.
This was the thirty first extravagent dish that had taken him forever
to make
turned down in the past 5 days. He'd had enough.
"Andrea?" he
said into the phone, five minutes later.
"Hey," sighed
Andrea.
"Can I ask you a
favour?"
On the other end of the
line, Andrea raised an eyebrow. But how bad could it be? Jim didn't yet
have
any kids to dump on her...
"Can you pleeeeaaase take Nea out for a day? Please? Pretty please?"
He was answered with a forceful KLUNK followed by a dial tone.
"Great," muttered Jim. "I wonder if SHE's pregnant too..."
*************************************************
"HIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
AUNTIE ANDREA!!!" shrieked Elle.
Frank
sighed.
"I'm really, really, really sorry, but..."
"I
don't
like where this is going," frowned Andrea.
"...
we
found Elle hiding under the kitchen table earlier with the sugar bowl
and a
spoon. You've got your work cut out for you this evening."
Andrea
sighed. "Oh well.
How bad can one night be?"
************************************************************************************
Sharon
silently handed over Lily's overnight bag.
"Tired?"
asked Andrea.
"You
have
no idea," sighed Sharon.
"Yeah,
well, I have a feeling I'm about to find out."
**********************************************************************
Lily,
Elle and Hannah sat around
the kitchen table and stared at Andrea.
Andrea
stared back at them.
Finally,
seeing that the staring
and expecting their aunt to read their minds was not going to work,
Lily let
out a sigh. "Food Auntie Andrea! What are we having for dinner?"
"Oh,
right," Andrea
said. She got up and rifled through her cupboards. Macaroni and Cheese
for one,
soup for one, some kind of food in a packet, whipped cream...she
blushed and
closed the cupboard door.
"Uh..what
do you feel
like?" She watched the kids share conspiring looks and backtracked.
"Okay, what would you normally be doing for dinner at your houses?"
"Mammy
would be burping the
baby and Daddy would be running around with a baby towel cause the baby
has
spitup," Lily nodded, handing over her experiences.
Andrea
wrinkled
her nose and looked at the twins. "Okay girls, what about you?"
"I'm
hungry," Elle
whined.
Hannah
looked at her aunt.
"That's basically it."
"Right."
Andrea pulled
open a drawer that was overflowing with takeaway food vouchers and
advertisements.
"Woah!"
Lily said.
"You're addicted!"
"Can
we pick something from
each place?" Elle asked.
Andrea
sent her a dirty look.
"No." She pulled the drawer completely out and dumped the contents on
the table. "Go wild. Pick what you want for dinner."
"I
like this parenting
approach," Lily grinned. "Can I live with you?"
***************************************************************************
Caroline
stared at the phone, pondering wherther or not to call Andrea and check
on the
evening's progress.
"Christian?"
she asker her son, who was lying on a baby blanket on the floor. "What
do
you think? If I should call Austie Andrea, give me no sign whatsoever."
Christian
sneezed.
Caroline
frowned. "Oh, as if that counts as a sign," she said dismissively,
reaching for the reciever.
A
few minutes later, Caroline replaced the phone with a frown.
"Busy
signal... either
they're ordering out for dinner... or the twins have burnt the house
down and
Andrea's dialing talking to emergency..."
Caroline's
eyes widened as this
thought sunk in. She yelped and dove for the phone again, frantically
dialling
Andrea's mobile number.
***************************************************************************************************
The
ringtone version of The Song That Doesn't End started sounding
in Andrea's kitchen. Elle reached over
her sisters's lap and picked it up.
"Hello,
this is Auntie Andrea's phone. She can't come to the
phone right now because she's busy exchanging spit and cooties with
Uncle
Shaun"
"Elle
Lindsey Woods! Put
your Aunt on the phone right this second!" Caroline cried.
"Hi
Mammy!" said Elle
brightly. "We had Prawn Chip Pizza for dinner!"
Hannah's
eyes widened. "I
want to talk to mammy!!!"
"Hi
Sweetie, that sounds
disgusting. Put your Aunt on the phone please."
"Ew,
yucky, I don't want to go get Auntie Andrea. Hannah, go
get Auntie Andrea."
"AUNTIE
ANDREAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!"
"Ouuuch,
that hurt from
here," winced Caroline.
Andrea hopped brightly into the kitchen and took
the phone from Elle. "Hello?"
"Your
idea of a healthy,
nourishing dinner is a prawn chip pizza? And you're snogging your
boyfriend
while the children watch and are left unattended in a kitchen where
there are
knives?"
Andrea
held the phone slightly
away from her ear. "Hello to you too, Caroline."
"Explain
yourself."
"Hey,
Shaun just arrived! I
didn't know he was coming. And besides I was only gone for a minute. As
for the
dinner, that was your kids idea, not mine."
Caroline
hmphed.
"Where's
Frank and the
baby?" Andrea asked suspiciously.
"The baby is here. Frank is cooking."
Hannah
tugged on Andrea's
sleeve. "I wanna talk to Mammy pwease."
Andrea
handed the phone over.
"Hi,
Mammy," Hannah
said into the phone.
"Hello
sweetie. Are you
having fun at Auntie Andrea's?"
There
was a silence. "I
don't know."
Caroline
was immediately
concerned. "Why don't you know? Has something happened? Did you get
hurt?"
"Dinner
was yummy. It was
something we'd never have at home. But I miss you Mammy.”
"Aww,
I miss you too. But
I'll see you tomorrow. I promise."
"And
Mammy?"
"Mhm?"
"Lily
says that when kids
fall down the toilet someone always flushes them away and they're never
seen
again. Is that true?"
Caroline
smiled. "No honey.
Can you put me onto Aunt Andrea again?"
***************************************************************************************************************
Sharon
went into Lily's room to put away her clean washing, when a
folded piece of paper on her desk with "MAMMY!!!!" written on it in
pink crayon caught her eye.
Sharon
unfolded it and
proceeded to read...
To
Mammy,
In
the event of my absens this evning, the animals in my Pet Shop
Girls Barbie, Teresa, and Skipper set wont be fed. Youll find the animal food in ther repektive boxes on
the third shelf on the rite. plees feed them for me so they dont die.
Love
Lily Georgia Bonnar
Sharon
grinned and put the note in her pocket. After putting away
the washing, she found herself hovering around the Pet Shop Girls set.
She
shrugged. "Oh why not?" she asked no one in
particular before settling down to pretend-feed the animals.
********************************************************************************************
"Dibs
on the bed!" cried Lily, throwing herself onto the
only bed in Andrea's guest room.
Andrea
glanced nervously at the twins. This had potential for a
major argument...
"Oh
boy! The floor!" cried Elle.
"Can
we sleep in sleeping
bags?" asked Hannah eagerly.
Andrea
sighed with relief.
"Sure," she agreed.
******************************************************************************************
Hannah
fiddled with the zip of
her sleeping bag, trying to go to sleep.
She
rolled over on her side and
poked her sister. "Elle," she whispered. "Are you alseep?"
Elle
stirred. "Give me
back my bacon," she mumbled.
Hannah
bit her lip and
scrambled out of her sleeping bag, clutching her ratty pink teddy bear.
Meanwhile,
downstairs, Andrea
was curled up on the couch watching the Late Movie, eating her Soup For
One.
"Auntie
Andrea?" said a small voice her.
Andrea
turned. "Hannah? Aww, what's wrong?"
Hannah
sniffled and crawled into
her Aunts lap. "Me and Pinky miss Mammy and Daddy."
Andrea
gave her niece a hug.
"You and Pinky are going to see them tomorrow."
Hannah
sobbed quietly.
"B-b-b-but we didn't say goodnight to M-m-m-m-mammyyyy..."
Andrea
glanced at the clock. It
wasn't THAT late...
She
reached for the phone
conveniently next to her on the couch and dialled Caroline's number,
figuring
that even if she was asleep, she'd be woken up by Christian sooner or
later
anyway...
*************************************************************************************************************
Caroline
groaned at the sound of the phone. "Honey?" she
asked. "Can you pleeeeeease -"
She
was answered with a snore.
Great. Just great.
She
hoisted herself out of bed,
muttering expletives.
"Hello?"
she mumbled into the phone.
"Er...
bad time?"
"Omigod!"
Caroline was suddenly wide awake. "Are
the girls okay?"
"Relax,
I didn't burn any
of them this time... Hannah couldn't sleep and she says she wont be
able to say
goodnight to you, soooo..."
Caroline
smiled in spite of
herself. "Okay, put her on."
"Hi
Mammy," said a
wavery voice two seconds later.
"Hi
Sweetie," said Caroline sleepily. "Did you have
fun tonight?"
“You
asked me that
before."
"Oh,
right. Right." Caroline yawned.
"Night
night Mammy, I love you!"
Caroline
smiled. "I love you too, Hannah. Goodnight."
Caroline
hung up her end of the
phone and begun crawl back to bed.
"Mmmm,
sleep," she murmered to noone in particular,
collapsing onto her side of the bed and already drifting off.
"WAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
***********************************************************************************
"Hellloooooooooo,"
greeted Andrea, elaborately flinging
the door open.
"You're
still in one piece," observed Sharon.
"Yes,
which is more than I can say for you."
"Shut
up."
Lily
bounded up to the door, overnight bag in tow. "Hi
Mammy," she said cheerfully. "I actually slept all last night!"
Sharon
sighed. "Lucky you." She gave her daughter a hug.
"Come on, lets go home and help Daddy with Rosie."
"Bye
Auntie Andrea!" cried Lily. "I hope your
cooties go away soon!"
"Cooties?"
Sharon asked Lily.
"Yeah,
she got them from Uncle Shaun."
Sharon
turned and raised an
eyebrow at Andrea, who grinned sheepishly and closed the front door.
*************************************************************************************************
Caroline
almost fell backwards
as Elle and Hannah launched themselves at her.
“Careful
girls, Mammy is a
little fragile this morning,” she said. She hugged them to her. “I
missed you.”
“We
missed you too, Mammy,”
Hannah said, deciding she wasn’t going to let go.
“But
you had fun, right?”
Andrea said, happily.
“Lily
says that Auntie Andrea
and Uncle Shaun were snogging last night,” Elle said, looking up at her
mother.
“What’s snogging?”
“Yeah,
just looked like spit
and cooties to us,” Hannah nodded.
Caroline
arched an eyebrow.
“What?
I’m not allowed to kiss
my boyfriend? It’s not like they don’t see you and Frank kissing. And
let’s not
get into Scrabble,” Andrea cried.
“What’s
Scrabble, Mammy?” Elle
asked.
“You’ll
pay for that,” Caroline
frowned. “Come on girls, I don’t know that your Dad can cope too much
longer
without your help.”
****************************************************************************************************
Hannah
came barreling
downstairs with her sandals on the wrong feet. "Daddy! I'm ready to go
birthday present shopping for Mammy and Aunty Sharon!!"
"Shhhhhhh!!!!"
hissed Elle. "Mammy's not deaf you know!"
"Mammy's
not HOME you know," responded Hannah.
"Is
too!"
"Is
not!"
"IS
TOO!"
"IS
NOT!"
Both
girls
took a simultaneous breath. "DAAAAAAAAAAADDYYY!!!" They yelled
together.
Frank,
hiding out in the
kitchen, sighed. It was going to be a long day. Maybe he should recruit
Andrea
for an extra pair of hands.
********************************************************************************************
"No."
"Pleeeeease
Andrea? How can you live with yourself, knowing
you let me take them birthday present shopping by myself? By myself!!!"
"Absolutely
delighted, knowing that I wouldn't be there to
help. At least you didn't have to handle them plus Lily on your own."
Frank
paused,
unable to think of anything esle to convince her. "Pleeeeeeeease??"
"Nope,"
replied Andrea cheerfully. "You're on your own with this one."
********************************************************************************************
“What do you want for your birthday, Mammy?” Lily asked, watching her mother wrestle with a strange looking contraption.
“Some time out and a bloody new pump!” Sharon cried, throwing the pump over to the corner of the room. It bounced and landed straight in the garbage bin. She smiled triumphantly.
“What the heck was that?” Lily asked, going over to the bin to examine it a bit more closely.
“A woman’s thing,” Sharon answered absentmindedly, turning the box upside down to see if she’d missed some instructions.
“A rudey woman’s thing?” Lily asked.
Sharon raised an eyebrow. “What do you mean a rudey woman’s thing?” She folded her arms. “What has Auntie Andrea been telling you? Or was it Uncle Jim?”
“Where do I get you one of these for your birthday?” Lily asked, dangling the contraption in her hand and tactfully changing the subject.
“All I want for my birthday is a homemade card and a hug from my girl,” Sharon smiled, cuddling her.
Lily grinned and left the room. Sharon threw the pump back in the bin.
********************************************************************************************
"We need something that Mammy will use a lot," Elle decided.
Hannah pointed as they walked past an underwear shop. "She uses them!"
Frank felt slightly uncomfortable. "Yeah, but they're so ordinary guys! Everyone uses them."
"That's true," Elle said nodding. "Drumsticks!"
"No," Hannah replied. "They're ordinary too."
Elle
eyed the big display outside the toy shop.
"Maybe..."
"Hey,
yeah! And she could
lend what we buy to us!"
Elle's
eyes lit up. "I
want that big purple teddy! For Mammy," she added hastily.
"Guys,
you can't buy a present for someone that way."
"Why
not?"
"It's
part of the
code."
"What
code?"
"The
present buyers code. You have to at least try and get
something you think the other person would like."
"I
think Mammy would love
the purple teddy," said Elle defiantly.
"Me
too," grinned
Hannah. "It's just lucky that we like it too."
Frank
sighed. "Boy, do I
wish Andrea were here," he muttered.
***************************************************************************************************************
Andrea
sat with her feet propped up on the table, sipping a
smoothie. Ahh, bliss. Especially compared to what she COULD be doing...
**Ring,
ring!!**
The
phone ringing could have posed a serious problem if Andrea
hadn't thought ahead and kept the phone right next to her. Now she
didn't even
have to get up. She was quite proud of herself.
"Moshi
moshi?"
"Want
to go shopping for Caroline's present?"
Andrea
switched the phone to the other ear. "Yes, but I
wanted to buy one for you at the same time."
"That's
okay, I'll close my eyes," Sharon replied.
"What
makes you so sure I haven't already bought her
present?"
"The
fact that you were moaning to me yesterday about how you
still had to find one."
"Oh.
That."
Andrea
paused. "Fine. Pick me up in an hour?"
"Alright."
***************************************************************************************************************
"Auntie
Andrea! Auntie
Sharon!" shrieked the twins.
Andrea
whimpered.
Frank
sighed. "You just
had to magically appear as we were leaving didn't you?"
"We
finished shopping," beamed Elle.
"But
you aren't carrying any bags," observed Sharon.
Frank
nodded. "Yes. After two and a half hours of visiting
the same shops over and over again, they decided to make her presents
this
year."
Andrea
grinned. "You have to admit, that's kind of
funny."
"You
wouldn't be saying
that if you'd come," sighed Frank, looking harried.
"True,
that," replied
Andrea cheerfully.
Hannah
jumped up and down
waving her arms to get her Aunts' attension, obviously on a sugar high.
"We wanna come shopping!"
"As
much as we'd love to take you with us, you two need to
get started on your presents for your Mammy," reminded Sharon.
"Oh
yeah!" grinned Elle. "They're going to be so
cool!!"
"Bye,"
grinned Andrea.
"Bye,"
replied Frank
darkly.
***************************************************
"Close
your eyes,"
"Andrea,"
began Sharon. "I am NOT closing my eyes
in a place where everything is made from something so delicate that if
you
sneezed near it, it would burst into flames."
"You
promised!" protested Andrea.
Sharons
eyes lit up.
"Oooh, are you buying my present?"
"Maybe.
Or maybe I'm
trying to put you off."
"You're
buying my present.
For an actress, you're terrible at lying."
Andrea
shrugged. "Okay, I'll come back when you're not with
me, I'll buy it then."
Sharon
frowned as Andrea calmly
strolled out of the shop, then cast a quick eye over the contents of
the shop.
Just what was Andrea going to buy her?
**************************************************************************************************************
"Daddy
won't mind if we ice the cake," Elle said, peering
at the ready made icing. "All we gots to do is put the colour in."
Hannah
nodded. "Okay."
She glanced at the food dye. "What colour?"
"Pink,"
Elle said, pouring the red dye in. She wrinkled
her nose. "It's not turning pink. You pick a colour and we'll change
it."
Hannah
studied the colours and
pulled the top off the blue one. "Blue!"
Elle
made a face. "That's
not blue, and anyway, blue is a boys colour!"
"I
know!" Hannah said.
"Lets put all the colours in and make a rainbow!"
Elle
nodded. "Yeah!"
They
both began pouring the
different coloured dyes in. Then they frowned.
"Stupid
dye. Doesn't look
like a rainbow," Hannah said.
In
fact it looked like a cross
between green, purple and brown.
"Maybe
it changes colour
when you put it on the cake." Elle selected the smallest piece of cake
that had just finished cooling and dumped the contents of the bowl onto
it.
Putting their hands in with great gusto, the twins spread it over.
They looked at it and heaved a sigh.
"Stupid cake," Elle said. "Daddy can fix it."
********************************************************************************************
Gavin hated the world at the moment. He was standing in the middle of a store, and was surrounded by pink and frilly things, none of which he thought his wife would be remotely interested in. However their darling daughter was determined that this was the place to find a birthday present in. Never mind that she had said that the previous fifteen shops.
"Can I help you sir?" a shop assistant asked.
Gavin
smiled. "No
thankyou. My daughter is just looking for a birthday present for her
mother."
Lily came up then and smiled sweetly at her father. "I can't find it,
Daddy!"
"What are you looking for? Maybe I can help," the shop assistant smiled indulgently at Lily.
********************************************************************************************
"Drive
faster, daddy!" shrieked Elle.
"Elle,
shush, you'll wake your brother," replied
Caroline. "And I don't know why you're so excited, it's me and Auntie
Sharon who are going to be opening presents..."
"How
come Chris sleeps all the time?" inquired Hannah.
"Birth
lag," replied Frank.
Elle
frowned. "What's that?"
"It's
a really bad joke," sighed Caroline. "You
guys don't feel like going to sleep by any chance, do you?"
"No
WAY!"
***********************************************************************************************************
Lily
poked her head around the curtains for the seventh time in
the past hour. "Are they here yet?"
Sharon
looked up from her book. "Well, what do you
think?"
"I
think you should open your presents now instead of when
Auntie Caroline and Uncle Frank and the
twins and the baby get here."
"Nope,
I'm perfectly happy to wait," replied Sharon
cheefully.
Lily
enticingly waved a wrapped package under her mothers nose.
"Are you suuuuuuure?"
"Yep."
Lily
rolled her eyes. "Grown ups are so boring."
***********************************************************************************************************
"They're
here!" shrieked Lily!
"Shush
Lil, you'll wake your sister."
"Good
thing too. More than eight hours sleep is bad for you,
you know," Lily informed her mother.
The
second Sharon opened the front door, three voices chimed
"NOW will you open presents?"
Caroline
raised her eyebrows. "That was spooky."
"You're
going to have to wait a bit longer anyway," said
Sharon. "Auntie Andrea, Uncle Shaun, Uncle Jim and Auntie Nea aren't
here
yet."
"Awwwww
man," whined Hannah. "Auntie Andrea's
always late."
"What
was that about me?" asked Andrea.
"Ah
jeez!" yelped Caroline. "Don't DO that!"
Christian
started whimpering. "See, now look at the trouble
you caused," reprimanded Caroline, taking Christian into the living
room.
"Oh
Caroline, you and your stories," sighed Andrea.
"Andrea, you're scaring my children. Andrea, looking for peoples spare
keys is abnormal. Andrea, you don't put sugar on mashed potatoes..."
"Andrea,
you're blocking my doorway," Sharon pointed
out.
"Oh,
don't you
start!"
About
ten minutes later, Jim
and Nea arrived, much to the relief of all the parents.
"Oh
boy! Present
time!" hollered Hannah.
I
don't think I've ever been this thrilled to see you, Jim,"
groaned Caroline.
"You
don't sound particularly thrilled."
She
narrowed her eyes.
"Don't push it."
Sharon
elbowed her. "The
prospect of presents doesn't cheer you up?"
Caroline
immediately brightened at the sight of the presents.
"Even
though they're symbols of the fact that you're now
another year older?" asked Andrea.
Caroline
frowned.
"I'm
only teasing
Caroline, stop taking me seriously."
"Just
open presents already, you guys!" sighed Lily.
"Yeah,"
agreed Hannah. "We're getting
impertinent."
"Impatient,"
corrected Caroline. "And we can't open presents till Uncle Shaun, Uncle
Jim and Auntie Nea arrive."
"Where
IS Shaun anyway?" asked Sharon.
"Still
in the car," said Andrea. "He's banished to
the car for another three minutes because he said it was stupid to
spend $300
on a pair of shoes."
"It
IS stupid to spend $300 on a pair of shoes,"
commented Caroline. She then added "Unless they were part of my
present."
They
were joined shortly after
by Jim and Nea. "Andrea, I don't think sending Shaun to the car really
taught him much," observed Jim. "He's in there listening to radio,
looking as happy as anything."
"Yeah,"
added Shaun,
walking through the door. "I should criticize your spending habits more
often!"
"I'll
remember to cut back when your birthday rolls
around."
"You
aren't pregnant, are
you Andrea?" asked Jim. Dirty looks from all the women greeted this
remark. "Ahhhh! Alright! Jeez! I take it back!"
"Okay!
We're all here now,
present time!" shrieked Elle.
Elle
and Hannah thrust a
brightly coloured box at their mother. "Happy birthday Mammy!!" they
chorused
Caroline
smiled broadly at her
daughters. "Thanks girls."
The
wrapping paper was brown
paper covered with handprints.
"We
fingerpainted it
Mammy!" Hannah grinned, sticking her two fingers in her mouth and
sitting
down next to Caroline.
"Daddy
helped," Elle
assured her.
"Tis
from Cwistian
too," Hannah said around her fingers.
"Yeah,
'cept Daddy said he
wasn't allowed to fingerpaint yet," Elle frowned.
Caroline
carefully unwrapped the
paper to reveal a big shoebox.
When
she opened the lid she
almost burst into tears. It was filled with things about her family.
The first
thing she lifted out was three plaster handprints, with Elle, Hannah
and
Christian printed carefully underneath.
"Happy
birthday
sweetheart," Frank said, kissing her on the top of her head.
"There's
lots of other
stuff too Mammy!" Elle cried, sticking her hand in. "Daddy says this
was our first booties!"
"I
remember those. Hannah
puked on them," Andrea said. She wrinkled her nose. "I hope you
washed them."
Frank
rolled his eyes. "No Andrea, I put them in there to
ripen."
"My
mammy's turn now!"
Lily said, thrusting a package at Sharon.
"Are
you okay?" Frank
said, sliding down next to Caroline on the sofa. "I didn't mean to
upset
you on your birthday."
She
kissed him gently. "You
didn't. Thankyou. I love you."
"Save
the mushy stuff for
later," Jim said. "Go on, Sharon. open your present."
"Lily,"
Gavin
reminded.
Lily
rolled her eyes and let out
an exasperated noise. "Oh yeah. It's from Rosie too."
Sharon
smiled and opened the
wrapping paper. Inside, was a framed picture that Lily had drawn.
"It's
our family,"
Lily grinned. "Daddy, you, Rosie, Auntie Andrea, Uncle Shaun, Uncle
Jim,
Auntie Nea, Auntie Caroline, Uncle Frank, Hannah, Elle, Christian and
Grampa." She pointed to an angel in the sky. "And that's
Gramma."
"Why
have I got green
hair?" Jim asked.
Lily
smiled apologetically.
"My brown marker ran out. Sorry Uncle Jim."
Andrea
giggled. "It's okay,
Jim. It's only how future generations will remember you."
"You're
one to talk. You've
got two fluro pink bows in your hair."
Andrea
gaped. "Lily! What's
with the bows!"
"Hey!
Quit criticizing my
daughter!" Sharon growled.
"Yeah!"
Lily agreed.
"I
decided that Nea and I
should combine your birthday presents with baby stuff," Jim said
proudly,
handing the two girls a gift basket each.
Nea
rolled her eyes. "He
can take total responsibility for that idea."
"You're
a cheapskate
Jim!" Andrea said, horrified.
""Shaun?"
Andrea
said.
"What?"
"The
presents."
"What
about the
presents?"
"Can I have them?"
"I
don't have them. You
said you were getting them."
"I
did not!"
"Uh,
yeah you did."
"It's
like tennis!"
Lily whispered excitedly.
"You'd forget your head if it wasn't screwed on!" Jim groaned.
"Auntie Andrea's Frankenstein!?" Hannah cried, snuggling up to her mother and bursting into tears.
"JIM!!!!" Caroline cried. "Did you let my child watch Frankenstein!?"
"Why is it always my fault! Blame Andrea!"
"Hey! That's not fair!"
