Two hundred friends and family gathered at the Church of St John in
Cratloe, County Clare as Sharon Corr of the mega-selling Irish pop group
The Corrs married Gavin Bonnar in an intimate wedding. Following the hour-long
ceremony, guests were ferried to a reception at nearby 16th century Dromoland
Castle for an all-night bash.
“It was a very emotional service,” Sharon said. “It was really lovely.
We are both so happy… We have been together for six years but we would
have married in six days but for our careers.”
The newlyweds, who met on the set of The Corrs’ first video, Runaway,
both admitted to being a bit nervous before the wedding. “I was fine up
to two minutes before I arrived and then all of a sudden I got nervous,”
Sharon said.
“I felt okay to start with and then my best man joked that he had forgotten
the rings,” said 32-year-old barrister Gavin. “Then I saw Sharon and I
went to pieces. She is beautiful.”
Sharon, dressed in an off-white halter-neck gown designed by London
designer Elspeth Gibson, arrived in a blue Jaguar alongside her 68-year-old
father Gerry. Sharon’s mother died two years ago while waiting for a lung
transplant.
Sharon’s sister Caroline was the maid of honour while Andrea, the lead
singer of the Irish sibling group, was a bridesmaid.
The couple got engaged in August 1999 in France. They’re now off on
their honeymoon, though the 31-year-old fiddle player remained tight-lipped
on the secluded location.
